About
As Melbourne emerged from yet another lockdown in 2021, outdoor space was once again essential in returning people to the city. With indoor density restrictions in place, hospitality will rely on using footpaths, laneways, and street spaces for outdoor dining.
Working with thermal sensation and thermodynamics concepts, combined with the computational power of data and simulation, the design responded to the need to create enjoyable outdoor microclimatic experiences within this precinct. While the interfaces and transitions between the indoors and outdoors will need to be understood and explored, the design facilitate safe outdoor dining in as “COVID- normal” by providing good airflow.
